Na starcie 46. Rally Principe de Asturias stanęła cała europejska czołówka kierowców. Zawody były bowiem zarówno runda Mistrzostw Europy jak też serii Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC).

Rywalizacja była zacięta. Początkowo dominowali Giandomenico Basso i Mitia Dotta, ale ich Fiat Punto Abarth S2000 stracił drugiego dnia w rowie ponad siedem minut i faworyci mistrzostw kontynentu spadli w klasyfikacji na ósme miejsce, za Michała Sołowowa i Macieja Barana.

Polacy w Peugeocie 207 Super 2000 utrzymali pozycje liderów w ME.

W rajdzie triumfowali Jan Kopecký i Petr Starý (Škoda Fabia S2000). Gdy wdawało się, że Czesi obejmą fotel liderów IRC, tuz przed metą doszło do zagrywali taktycznej - Nicolas Vouilloz i Nicolas Klinger (Peugeot 207 Super 2000) spóźnili się czte4ry minuty na PKC. Chodziło o to, aby wyprzedzili ich Kris Meeke i Paul Nagle (Peugeot 207 Super 2000)...

Kris Meeke zdobył w ten sposób osiem zamiast sześciu punktów i pozostał liderem serii o jeden punkt przed Janem Kopeckým...
